# Trophy Club and Westlake: Which Appraisal District Do You Deal With?

Both towns have property in two counties, so the answer depends on your parcel. Your Notice of Appraised Value names the appraisal district. Most Trophy Club residents are in Denton County, so they deal with Denton Central Appraisal District.

## Which appraisal district covers Trophy Club and Westlake?

It depends on your parcel, because both towns reach into more than one county. The Town of Trophy Club says it lies in two counties. Most residents live in Denton County, and about 150 homes fall under Tarrant County. The town sends property tax questions to Denton Central Appraisal District (DCAD).

The Town of Westlake points owners to two offices. Its property tax page tells readers to contact the Tarrant County Tax Assessor-Collector or the Denton County Tax Assessor-Collector for questions about a tax bill. Those offices bill. The appraisal districts set the value. Learn more in our [appraisal district](https://wallacecpa.multisites.ai/glossary/appraisal-district) entry.

The simple test is the notice. Your Notice of Appraised Value comes from the district that values your property. Use that district’s rules.

## What is the protest deadline at DCAD for Trophy Club owners?

DCAD says the deadline to protest is May 15 or 30 days from the mailing date of your notice, whichever is later. That is the rule DCAD states. It does not name a tax year on that page, so check your own notice each spring.

DCAD says filing online is the fastest and most convenient way to start and manage a protest. You can create an account with the property owner ID and PIN from your Notice of Appraised Value. A [property tax protest](https://wallacecpa.multisites.ai/glossary/property-tax-protest) asks the district to change the value of your property.

## What if my property is in Tarrant County?

Then the Tarrant Appraisal District (TAD) applies. For tax year 2026, TAD said the deadline to file was May 15, 2026, or 30 days after the date your Notice of Appraised Value was delivered. Compare this with DCAD’s wording. TAD counts from delivery. DCAD counts from the mailing date and uses whichever date is later.

Dates for 2027 will appear on the 2027 notices. Our guide on [protesting property tax in Tarrant and Denton counties](https://wallacecpa.multisites.ai/guides/property-tax-protest-tarrant-denton) covers both districts.

## What does Westlake charge for property tax?

Westlake adopted a tax rate of $0.18500 per $100 of value for tax year 2026 on September 15, 2026. The town reports that this is lower than its no-new-revenue rate. Your bill adds other taxing units, such as the county and school district, so do not treat this as your full rate.

Rates change every year. Confirm the number on the town’s page and on your own tax statement.

## Do I need to reapply for a homestead exemption after buying?

Yes, you apply for your own. DCAD says that if you bought a home recently, exemptions from the previous owner will not carry over. Read our [homestead exemption](https://wallacecpa.multisites.ai/glossary/homestead-exemption) entry for the basics, then check the district’s page for the forms.

## What if I disagree with the hearing result?

For Tarrant County parcels, TAD describes the next steps. If you cannot resolve the value informally, you have the right to have your case heard by the appraisal review board, an independent board of citizens. If you are not satisfied with its decision, you have the right to appeal to district court.

TAD says you must start that court process by filing a petition within 60 days of the date you receive the board’s order. Denton County parcels follow Denton Central Appraisal District’s process, so check DCAD’s page for its steps and deadlines.
